Elevating Comedy: Success for Olivia Raine Atwood's ‘Faking It’

The brief

Olivia Raine Atwood, a comedian from Los Angeles and New York, brought her storytelling show ‘Faking It’ to the Edinburgh Fringe. The goal was to secure 4-5 star reviews to boost her career and to land more shows in the UK and US. Olivia also wanted to connect with a young female audience and to gather video of audience reactions for social media.

Our role

We provided advertising advice for relevant Scottish publications and key Edinburgh locations, negotiating competitive rates to maximise the show's visibility.

To attract reviewers, we created a VIP media list and invited key industry figures. We also engaged local healthcare organisations in Edinburgh, encouraging group bookings to boost attendance and word-of-mouth buzz for early performances.

Our main goals were to secure advance press coverage and positive reviews - setting the stage for a successful run.

The result

Our promotion for Faking It achieved great results. We organised group visits from personal trainers, dentists, and carer charity representatives - boosting word-of-mouth.

The show received strong preview coverage in June and July, with event listings in The List and What's On Edinburgh. Critical acclaim included five stars from Fringe Review and 4.5 stars from both The Reviews Hub and The Derek Awards. Olivia was also included in a feature in The Edinburgh Reporter.

Highlights included winning Best Solo Show from What the Fringe Podcast, and being named a Pick-of-the-Fringe - leading to a run at London's Greenwich Theatre later in the year.

Testimonial

James did an amazing job for my first Fringe experience. It was excellent chatting with him each week and hearing what he was working on; he always kept me in the know. James stacked my houses my first week of the festival, which helped me build momentum and assured that I never performed to an empty room. If you're a first timer at Fringe, James is your guy! I have amazing reviews at the end of the festival and my run is continuing on, thanks to coverage from James.
